Welcome to Grenoble !

Grenoble is a city situated in the region Rhône-Alpes, in the South East of France. It is surrounded by three mountain ranges (Belledonne, Chartreuse and Vercors) and located between two rivers:  Drac and Isère. Grenoble is a perfect place to take part in both summer and winter sports; the surrounding mountains offer numerous hiking circuits and great ski resorts. The city includes several museums and research centres, as well as a world-renowned public university which attracts students and staff from all over France, Europe and beyond.

The city is well-known for its cable car called “les bulles” which connects the city-centre to the top of a hill named “La Bastille”, an important landmark of local historical and natural heritage. Named after the 19th century military fortress on its flanks, the Bastille military buildings are on the national register of historic buildings. The hill is also blessed with rich and varied wildlife, classifying it as a natural area of ecological interest. The city's art museum is well-known for its collections of modern and contemporary art, but it's also worth making time to visit some of the other cultural sites as well as the local markets.
